As much as I wished that I could have hopped out of the car and lined up to enter the insanely massive premises of Eastern State Penitentiary, the responsible parent in me prevailed. Traveling with a teen, a tween and a toddler presents it's challenges. Not only was the allegedly haunted former correctional facility not quite, or not at all age-appropriate for our two year-old, it was also his nap time. Yeah guys, I'm sorry but you'll have to go solo on this one. "The keys are in the ignition. Okay? Bye!" Welcome to my world. Our family has actually ghosted about in not only Eastern State Penitentiary, but also a few of the destinations on this list quite a few times. The haunted Hudson Valley of New York is rich in American history and tales of spirited paranormal occurrences. Sleepy Hollow is a quaint, little place alongside the Hudson River that is especially spooktacular during the fall, leading into Halloween.
