The Power of Playing Your Position with Kindness

How much power is there in kindness?  Knowing that "he who angers you, controls you" is sage advice that was most useful in evolving my perspective on life. I made the active decision to regain my power, no one will have my permission to exhibit that type of control over my life. That's the true power of playing your position with kindness.

This article is my voice shared as #1000Speak individually yet collectively.

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
-Aesop

So many people keep their expressions of compassion and generosity under such highly guarded lock and key that clearly, these demonstrations must be worth more than the Hope Diamond. The real power move, however, is in demonstrating kindness from the casual passerby must, therefore, make us more powerful mentally, in addition to bringing about a cycle of good karma. Showing others our more gentle, helpful nature contradicts our survival of the fittest theories and negates our fight or flight instincts.

"Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love." -Lao Tzu

The transformation from an individual, foraging through life alone into a productive member of societal Human Kind is no coincidence. Humans exemplifying humanity in kind, and through kindness, create Human Kind, an extremely delicate yet powerful process. We become increasingly stronger as a part of a collective than any one of us could ever experience on our own. The power of playing your position with kindness is in acting in kind, inspiring and being inspired by like-minded individuals affirming a better quality of life.

Will we always win in our efforts to treat others with kindness? By no means is this possible. Revisiting the beginning of the process, we are humans. Humans are imperfect, as perfection does not exist in nature. We have the power to make changes and take action each and every day. We can make a difference by deciding to choose kindly whenever possible.

"Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." -Princess Diana

Random acts of kindness have the power to ignite a movement. We see the evidence every day in heartwarming stories that we share virally renewing our faith in humanity. By simply offering a passerby the genuine connection of a smile or an unwarranted act of compassion, we ourselves improve our positive sense of self, give our bodies a boost to our immune systems and reduce incidents of depression and stress. We graduate from the basic level of fulfilling our.sense of self to a higher level of functioning nurturing personal growth, mind and body wellness and cognitive functions.

"I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers." -Khalil Gibran

Each day I grow stronger and more powerful as I am challenged to play my position with kindness. Did I mention that one of my positions is as mom to a teenager? Yeah, life happens like that and is not always fair. So, many days I bite my tongue and kill 'em with kindness. The power of kindness can also be in allowing others to believe that they have the power in the situation.
