Take a Great Escape - Summer Travel and Family Fun Theme Parks

From coast to coast, our family has enjoyed visiting theme parks all across the country. We have found some amusement parks to be favorites of each member of our family for a wide variety of reasons. Finding a theme park that appeals to the entire family is always one of those magical family moments. After relocating our family to New York's Hudson Valley, we found a true gem of a theme park in Upstate New York that our family raves about all year long.

I was invited as a US Family Guide Editor to attend a media event sponsored by Six Flags Great Escape for the purpose of facilitating this review.

Take a Great Escape
Summer Travel & Family Fun Theme Parks

Nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks, a scenic area overflowing with local history and nature's best, the Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom, is one of America's favorite, most historic theme parks. Attracting families for decades, the theme park originally opened its gates on June 27, 1954, as Storytown USA. Growing and expanding from the initial five-acre nursery rhyme-themed park, the Great Escape & Spalshwater Kingdom now includes more than 135 rides, shows and attractions, including two full children's areas to fill your day with fun and memories.

Experiencing a fun-filled visit to the Great Escape includes admission to two parks for the price of one with Splashwater Kingdom included, enjoy splashes and sprinkles at one of the best outdoor water parks, featuring 12 of the coolest white water attractions and one truly unforgettable family fun experience.

All set to launch for the 2016 season, The Great Escape will welcome the all-new Greezed Lightnin' looping coaster. The fast-paced Greezed Lightnin' will seat 24 riders in "face-off" position and begin to rock forward and backward, pendulum style. As the coaster train reaches maximum height, guests experience one of the longest suspended hang-times - over 70 feet in the air, upside down. Thrill seekers are then hurled through a series of seven full inversions, both frontward and backward, offering sheer looping mayhem.

This stupendous new attraction will be located across from Thunder Alley in one of the most historic and visible sections of the theme park. Greezed Lightnin's impressive lights and flames will transport guests back in time with its iconic 1950's theme and thunderous hot rod inspiration.

Giving guests the ultimate adventure and adding even more value to the Season Pass, The New Revolution Virtual Reality Coaster has landed at The Great Escape for even more thrills this summer. Riders are transformed into co-pilots in their own fighter jets as they try to save the planet earth from an alien invasion. In this air-to-air combat, air crafts race throughout the city, following the exhilarating movements of the coaster, zooming past drones, seeking out the mothership to destroy it completely. This elite fighter squadron experience will make its debut on the legendary Steamin' Demon roller coaster located in Ghost Town.

As a proud distinction, The Great Escape will become home to the Northeast's first inverting Virtual Reality Coaster featuring Samsung Gear VR headsets, guests are transported into a realistic 360-degree virtual world perfectly synched to the drops, inverted loops, and powerful twists and turns of the Steamin' Demon. The New Revolution Virtual Reality Coaster is a fully immersive, virtual reality attraction, inclusive for free with your Season Pass and Great Escape admission ticket.

The Steamin' Demon boasts three full inversions, double corkscrew and loop coaster which was initially introduced by Charles R. Wood as the park's first modern roller coaster in 1984 offering over riders 32 years of thrills. Guests can enjoy the Steamin' Demon's traditional thrills or completely immerse themselves through the use of the virtual reality headset, entering into a whole new experience.

Look out for the newest addition to the theme park to open its doors, Charley's Saloon is the newly renovated Sports Bar concept in Ghost Town serving up refreshing fun in a welcoming atmosphere.
