Have you ever considered the versatility of eggs? There are so many creative ways to include delicious, nutritious eggs into our daily lives. Even the sturdy, yet fragile egg shells are useful. NestFresh shares this hands-on arts and crafts activity to create DIY Recycled Egg Carton Planters while exploring the benefits of home gardening and green living.


Recycled Egg Carton Planters

Supplies 

1. Scissors                                     7. Six Eggs
2. Knife                                         8. Bowl
3. Markers                                    9. Mini Spoon
4. Soil                                            10. Water
5. 
NestFresh Egg Carton           11. Sunshine
6. Seeds (grass, wildflowers, vegetables, etc.)


Instructions

1. Cut the egg carton in half and cut the lid off of the carton.

2. Encourage children to color and decorate the carton however they would like or with an emphasis on nature, plants, recycling, and gardening as this will be the planter that starts their mini-garden.

3. Punch a hole in the egg shells and, using a knife, remove the top third of the egg shells and drain their contents into a container.

4. Push pin into the bottom of each egg cup to create a drain at the bottom.

5. Fill each cup with soil using a small spoon and place in the carton. Sprinkle a few seeds into each cup and cover with a 1/4 inch soil.

During National Egg Month observed each May, NestFresh, recognized for their specialty egg products, is hosting a baking recipe contest. Calling upon home bakers nationwide, near and far, to submit their best recipes, entrants will compete for the opportunity to win the grand prize of a $500 Visa gift card and an exclusive NestFresh gift package.
Interested bakers can enter the baking contest by submitting their recipes through NestFresh on FacebookRecipes may be submitted during National Egg Month, beginning May 1 through May 31. During the contest, select submitted recipes will “face off” weekly on Facebook.
