This is a piece I created during a five minute writing prompt exercise given during an Amherst Writers and Artists Method Writer's Workshop. 

There was a time. 

There was a place. 

There was a person. 

Smiles and tears came anew.

The beginning, the end, overdue. 

At times I crawled, I stood, I flew. 

So much a memory, mental residue. 

Here is the time. 

Here is the place.

Here is the person. 

Behind me the door slammed.
