Do you know a stellar inventor kid? I've got a tween that is a prime candidate for this awesome STEM Learning challenge! Blasting off from the fuel of anticipation of the upcoming Disney movie Tomorrowland, Walt Disney Studios, Disney Citizenship and XPRIZE have shared the announcement of a national challenge for inspiring, young innovators.
Here is what you need to know to enter Disney's Create Tomorrowland – XPRIZE Challenge.
With a launch date set for April 22, 2015, Disney's Create Tomorrowland – XPRIZE Challenge inspires kids to envision their lives in the future and share their worlds through videos, imagery or stories featuring a new and amazing invention or innovation of the future, describing how it works and its impact on life in the future.
This June, there will be six winners experiencing a once–in-a-lifetime mentorship experience with an industry leader in their area of interest. Each winner will also receive $3,000, a 3D Printer from 3D Systems and registration for FIRST® LEGO® League for the competition season 2015-2016 in the United States.
Get ready! The official contest registration and entry submission is scheduled to begin April 22, 2015 and continues through May 17, 2015. Registered contest participants will compete in two divisions: Junior Division (8-12 years old) and Senior Division (13–17 years old). All of the contest entrants must have obtained prior consent from their parent or legal guardian in order to be eligible to participate in the challenge. The Official Rules and additional details about the Challenge are available at http://XPRIZEchallenge.org/CreateTomorrowland.
Each of the creative submissions will be judged based on the following criteria- Innovation, Creativity and Presentation. XPRIZE will provide a panel of contest judges responsible for the evaluation and scoring of all contest submissions and the selection of six winners. Generous supporting XPRIZE Partners include FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), 3D Systems and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird's Tomorrowland, a riveting mystery adventure starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as "Tomorrowland." What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.
Featuring a screenplay by "Lost" writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird, from a story by Lindelof & Bird & Jeff Jensen, Tomorrowland stars Hugh Laurie, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson.
Tomorrowland opens in U.S. theaters on May 22, 2015.
