Following our map, with backpack at the ready, we recently headed out on an adventure filled with rescues and the rainforest. We enjoyed a day exploring with Dora and Diego at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ. Excited about the newest preschooler-friendly exhibit, Dora and Diego—Let’s Explore! featuring preschool celebrities from Nickelodeon, Dora from Dora the Explorer and Diego from Go, Diego, Go!, along with some of their most familiar friends- Boots, Map, Backpack, Isa, Tico, and Swiper the Fox. This was an epic adventure that my 4 year-old, "Busy", never wanted to end. Providing the perfect combination of active play and problem-solving skills, and even some Spanish vocabulary, families will spend quality time exploring with Dora the Explorer and her animal-rescuing cousin, Diego.
Feeling as if we entered a real-life episode of Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Do!, we encountered many of the friends and faces that my 4 year old is already familiar with from watching the show. Together in the Dora and Diego- Let's Explore! exhibit we discovered-
The Purple Planet – Where kids can get moving as they climb up the steps, peer outside and slide down to the surface of the Purple Planet.
Rocket Ship – Dress up in a spacesuit, pilot the ship, assemble puzzles, and test their memory with images of colorful planets aboard the rocket ship.
Constellations – Spend time stargazing, while identifying the fun patterns made out of stars by inserting star shapes to light-up a constellation.
Isa’s Flowery Garden – My little gardener cultivated Isa’s Garden by planting and picking flowers, making friends with the bunny, bird, butterfly, and insect puppets, and while I sat alongside him smelling the flowers.
Tico’s Tree and Car – In a fun frenzy, we helped to gather nuts from the tree for a family picnic and watch them zoom up and over to fill Tico’s basket. We also were busy helping to prepare Tico’s car with fuel and a tire repair before he can begin his journey.
Pirate Ship – All dressed up like pirates, we shared treasure, raised the Pirate Piggies’ flag, peeked through telescopes, and had an exciting sailing adventure.
Animal Rescue Center- My experienced animal rescuer diagnosed the center's animals on the ‘Scanner’, bandaged, applied cold packs at the ‘First-Aid Station,’ and bathed the stuffed animals at the ‘Care Station.’
Rainforest Maze – Traveling through the rainforest to discover animals encouraged much needed active to as swing across the Bobo Brothers’ monkey bars, crawl through a fallen tree stump, rock climb across Jaguar Mountain, and hop, skip or jumping across River Rocks.
Dora and Diego—Let’s Explore! will be open through January 24, 2016, at Liberty Science Center. The exhibit is presented by the WellPoint Foundation and Bank of America. Liberty Science Center is a 300,000-square-foot learning center located in Liberty State Park on the Jersey City bank of the Hudson near the Statue of Liberty.
