A Beginner's Guide to Coffee Culture

Coffee is an overwhelmingly popular way to begin the day.  Prepared from roasted coffee beans, ground and then brewed with near-boiling water to produce the beverage known as coffee. Containing caffeine, a stimulant that so many of us enjoy throughout the day to boost focus and alertness. Coffee may have health benefits, however, it is important to savor it's goodness in moderation, aware of any potential
side effects, including insomnia, anxiety, heartburn, or irritating the stomach

A Beginner's Guide to Coffee Culture

Coffee flavors are available in a complete spectrum ranging from the strong espresso to decaffeinated varieties. Here is an introduction to few popular selections in modern coffee culture.

Espresso

Enjoy the bold flavor of an espresso, a strong, concentrated coffee specially brewed by forcing boiling water through finely-ground coffee beans. It is the base for many other coffee drinks, such as lattes and cappuccinos. Traditionally slightly thicker in consistency than regular coffee, espresso is served in a small serving as a shot with as much caffeine as an average coffee cup.

Americano

Sipping a steaming hot americano coffee is brewed as an espresso diluted with additional hot water. Caffé americano (it's Italian) is a wise choice if drinking espresso is too strong for your preference. Coffee flavor from an americano is not the same as traditionally brewed coffee, as the strong flavor varies according to the number of shots of espresso and amount of water added to the serving.

Latte

Trendy and delicious, a latte is crafted from an espresso coffee with steamed milk, covered with a layer of foamed milk on top. Sipping on a latte is an ideal choice if you prefer to drink a creamy, flavorful cup of coffee.

Cappuccino

Beginning with an espresso, add in a little bit of steamed milk with a frothy layer of foamed milk on top and your cappuccino is ready for you to enjoy. Similar to a latte, a cappuccino is made with a thicker, topping of foam added to your preference.

Mocha

My personal favorite, a mocha is a latte swirled with chocolate syrup or powder. For anyone savoring the combination of chocolate and coffee, the gourmet flavor of a mocha coffee is a true delight.

Caramel Macchiato

For a tasty caramel macchiato, begin with an espresso which is added to milk, rather than milk being added to the espresso. Sweet and creamy, caramel syrup and a layer of foamed milk on top create a wonderful blend.

Frappuccino

Refreshing, frosty and sweet, a frappuccino is a blended coffee drink made with ice, milk, and coffee syrup topped with whipped cream and or spices.
