Gifts are often unexpected surprises. Sharing a wish list removes a great deal of the uncertainty of not knowing the who, what, where, when, and how of gifting, however, we are not always given the privilege of choice. We live by the all too frequently quoted preschool code of- "you get what you get". There are moments in our lives where we neglect to see the true value of what we get, due to our expectations of receiving something, anything other than what we have been given. In these moments, we may find that we are missing out on our blessings. We were given the gift of viewing an advanced screening of the endearing, family movie, The Short Game. Emotionally connecting with the story, I was able to reflect on the long goals sustained in the movie, The Short Game.
Long Goals Sustain The Short Game
Discovering our uniquely special gifts and talents is a natural path along our journey of self-discovery. Finding ourselves is a learning process which develops from a place of insight, observation, and sincerity. Similarly we are able to use these same resources to help family and friends gain a greater level of understanding of their gifts shared with the world.
Taking time to appreciate the measured pace of The Short Game, family dynamics and friendships are expanded upon in a meaningful and relevant manner. Jeremy and his younger brother, Ethan learn to embrace the gifts and challenges of neurodiversity through their relationship. Feeling the distance of their differences, golf serves as the best way for them to be able to bridge the gap between the two of them.
We were captivated by the pressure of the highs and lows the family experienced together as a whole. Watching the journey the two brothers take toward discovering their common ground is a rewarding and fulfilling theme within the movie, The Short Game. The cast features the talents of Owen Himfar, an actor with autism in the role of Ethan, along with-
Ben Krieger | Jeremy Avery
Mackenzie Astin | John Avery
Katherine Cunningham | Lisa Avery
Glenn Morshower | Jack Odom
Tyler Lofton | Tommy Winslow
Emma Parks | Carly Stewart
Adyn Alexander | Bruce Bennett
Brandon Potter | Coach Goulart
Jon Donahue | Mike Bennett
Brandon Gomez | Martin
Brody Stowers | Lewis
"On the brink of his greatest victory, a high school golfer is forced to make a life-altering decision, finally realizing his own personal dream or standing by his autistic brother."
